Law Firm Marketing Plan: A Practical Template for Indian Firms

Law Firm Marketing Plan: A Practical Template for Indian Firms

Most Indian law firms market in bursts – a flurry of activity when work is slow, then nothing when it picks up. A simple written marketing plan replaces that guesswork with a system you can run in a few hours a month. This is a practical, reusable template you can copy and fill in for your own firm, built around what actually works for lawyers and kept within Bar Council of India norms.

Why your firm needs a written plan

A plan does three things: it forces you to decide who you want to reach, it stops you wasting money on channels that will not move the needle, and it makes results measurable so you can improve. It need not be long. One page, honestly filled in, beats a fifty-slide strategy nobody follows.

The law firm marketing plan template

1. Goals. Write down what you actually want in the next 6-12 months – not “more visibility”, but “8 new commercial retainers” or “20 qualified divorce enquiries a month”. Specific goals shape every other choice.

2. Ideal client and practice focus. Name the practice areas you want more of and the clients you serve best (by matter type, city, language). Trying to be everything to everyone is the most common reason law-firm marketing fails.

3. Positioning. In one sentence, why should a client choose you over the firm down the road? Experience, focus, responsiveness – pick something true and lead with it.

4. Channels. For most firms the durable channels are a credible website, SEO and local search, educational content, genuine reviews, and a referral system. Choose two or three to do well rather than six done badly.

5. Budget. Decide what you can invest monthly. If you are unsure what is realistic, see our guide on how much a law firm should spend on marketing.

6. Calendar and ownership. Put a light cadence on paper – who does what, and when. Even “one article and four client updates a month, reviewed by [partner]” is enough to build momentum.

7. Metrics. Track a handful: enquiries, where they came from, and how many became clients. Review monthly and shift effort toward what works.

Stay compliant

Everything in your plan should inform rather than solicit, avoid guarantees of outcomes, and rely on genuine reviews – the approach that keeps you within BCI norms and, conveniently, is also what ranks. For the wider view, see how to market a law firm in India and our benchmarks.

Turn the plan into a pipeline

A plan is only as good as its follow-through. Pair it with a simple way to capture and convert the enquiries it generates – see building a client-acquisition system. If you would like this template filled in for your firm, talk to LexGrow and we will build a plan around your goals.
